Aikido

Home / Aikido

Definition :

Aikido (合気道) is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, emphasizing harmony, blending with an opponent’s energy, and controlling aggression without unnecessary force. Aikido techniques use throws, joint locks, and pins to neutralize attacks while protecting both the defender and attacker.

Unlike many martial arts that rely on brute strength, Aikido focuses on:

  • Efficient use of body mechanics and leverage
  • Harmonizing with an opponent’s movement (aiki)
  • Maintaining balance, posture, and control
  • Developing mental clarity, calmness, and centeredness

Aikido is not only an effective self-defense system but also a path of personal development and internal cultivation.
